Napoleon

Words & Music by James Kennedy

'Napoleon' is an Alternative Rock song & the 1st song on the 2015 Kyshera album 'Circle'. The words, music & production are by James Kennedy.

The album begins with 'Napoleon', kicking straight in with its dramatic intro & build up before the central character enters announcing 'Enter the new King'. The story has begun with him in a position of success, having achieved his wildest dreams (to be a Rock Star) and the song then proceeds to explore the mentality of 'new money' & the self righteous recklessness the character feels they deserve. Along the way the song explores themes of celebrity, sacrifice, emotional detachment & demons. Lyrical references seeded in to the song which appear elsewhere on the album include 'stepping stones', 'the wrong size' & 'the show' all of which are recurring themes throughout 'Circle'.

Musically, the song is based around Kennedy's trademark B9 Guitar tuning (B, F#, B, F#, B, C#) and although it has an unconventional song structure, by Kyshera standards it loosely follows a standard song format. In the middle 8, a Synth part plays the main riff from the song 'Break This' (track 6) which implies that the seeds of disillusionment within the protagonist have quietly been sown already.

LYRICS

Enter the new King

And let the show begin

Where the one’s who’ve got everything

Still need more

I live your wildest dreams

To the soundtrack of a million screams

But do you wanna go behind the scenes?

Do you need more?

Come watch the Freak show

As they sacrifice their lives

To appease the gods

With mirror tinted eyes

For this world I walked a million miles to get in

For this life I lost so many others trying

That road seems so hard to remember

The stepping stones

So get fucked up,

Care for your vices

Put that finger up

No apologising

‘Cos I’ve already been through Hell

So I’m not scared to go back

I said I’ve I’ve already been to Hell

And I’m not gonna go back

Fame, Sex, Wealth, Power

Drugs, Lust, Speed, Glamour

Now see the underdog roar

The one that they ignored before

Now its more than art, it is war

Do you want more?

They fill their holes up

With things that are the wrong size

And its always too late

Before they realise

For this world I walked a million miles to get in

For this life I lost so many others trying

That road seems so hard to remember

The stepping stones

Fame, Sex, Wealth, Power

Drugs, Lust, Speed, Glamour

For this world I walked a million miles to get in

For this life I lost so many others trying

That road seems so hard to remember

The stepping stones
