Element

Words & Music by James Kennedy

'Element' is an Alternative Rock song & the 5th song on the 2010 Kyshera album 'Paradigm'. The words, music & production are by James Kennedy.

The song is vaguely describing something throughout that 'cant be killed' & 'cant be silenced' etc but the listener isn't told what the song is about until the last line where Kennedy sings "There’s nothing its enemies can do, to stop the power of The Truth". The song is about no matter how long it takes or how difficult the journey, the truth is the truth and in the end, the truth will always win. Musically, the song is a very simple 4 chord repeat throughout & has no verse, chorus or structure other than getting progressively denser & bigger in its arrangement as more & more instruments join in the building of the simple 4 chord turnaround. Kennedy has said that this is meant to musically represent the growing of the truth from the supposed 'ramblings of one lone madman' to becoming the established norm in society, which is often the case & was inspired by the Gandhi quote "Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth". To this end, the song begins with single piano chords & as each 'verse' in the poem begins, new instruments are added representing the growing numbers of people who are gradually realising the truth. This build continues until the songs emotional crescendo.

LYRICS

From the ashes it will rise

As it will do every time

And as surely it will multiply

‘cos those that seek will always find

Not of body, not of mind

Transcending all space & time

It’s everywhere all the time

Like a virus to a lie

Has no agenda or beliefs

With no allegiances to keep

Has no feelings, has no needs

And can bring an empire to its knees

Can’t be killed or disappeared

Can’t be silenced out of fear

You can’t ignore it, cannot bribe

And it finds the guilty every time

The most powerful weapon

Only costs a question

There’s nothing its enemies can do

To stop the power of The Truth
