Coalition
Words & Music by James Kennedy
'Coalition' is an Alternative Rock song & the 12th song on the 2010 Kyshera album 'Paradigm'. The words, music & production are by James Kennedy.
'Coalition' is the final track on the album & Kennedy has said that after spending an album criticising what's wrong with the world, he likes to end on a positive with an optimistic message of hope & empowerment. The term 'Coalition' was taken from the post 9/11 'Coalition of the willing' alliance of countries who were supportive of the western plans to invade the middle east but used here in the context of a 'Peoples Coalition' against this establishment. Throughout the song Kennedy rallies the listener to political action with lines such as "We've got the numbers. We've got the power. We've got each other. It's only a choice". The 1st verse also makes reference to 'The Servants' which is making use of the analogy made in the song 'The Servant', track 9 from the same album.
Musically, the song follows a standard rock song format & is the only song on the album to feature the low B9 Guitar tuning (B, F#, B, F#, B, C#) which became a regular feature of Kennedy's later songs.
LYRICS
Welcome to history
Where judgements calling all of us
To see the world we accepted
And if we let the servants hijack the palace
Who can we really blame
Enter humanity
Endlessly exploitable
It’s written in our design
To be decent, to be naive & impressionable
So the broken few always win
Beware a leader, of any kind
We must do it ourselves
We the majority
Are the authority
In natures democracy
If we just set each other free
Welcome to history
Where we will see the lies of now
But will we not see the patterns
Old enemies with ever changing faces still
Take us around again
We the majority
Are the authority
In natures democracy
If we just set each other free
Yeah, we’ve got the numbers
Yeah, we’ve got the power
Yeah, we’ve got each other
It’s only a choice
No votes will save you, from the system
We must do it ourselves
